Easy Way to Help

One of the easiest ways to lend a helping hand, and live out a life of Christ-like servanthood through your actions is to donate food to homeless shelters or food closets. It really does not take much time, but the donations go a long way. I'll be the first to admit that I am not a very giving person. This does not excuse me from giving though. As a Christian it is our job to help meet the needs of those who are hurting.

In Midlothian, we have a food closet called Manna House. They are constantly taking donations for food. The holiday season is one of the best times to donate. Because of the hike in prices of electricity, many needy families will be turning to food closets and giveaways for food. I always overanalyze the situation. During the hurricanes, I figured they would be overwhelmed with food. They were. However, it didn't last long. They ran out of food in almost a month after Hurricane Katrina. They can always use our help, no matter the season.

I asked our youth to do a can food drive this past Wednesday. The youth came together and brought a total of 408 food items. Not bad for 20 people. I loaded up my truck on Thursday and brought the food over to Manna House. They were happy for the donation. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for a pat on the back or a cookie. Well, maybe if it's a low-carb cookie. Kidding. I want to encourage my Christian brothers and sisters to give the gift of food this season. Look for ways to donate where you live.
